The family of Cattail Creek Estate Winery owns 100 acres of vineyards
located throughout the Four Mile Creek sub appellation, each with its unique
characteristics. Every year, the best grapes from their vineyards are
selected to make the wine for that vintage. Working with what Mother Nature
has given, winemaker Tatjana Cuk, hand crafts wines that reflect the
family's vineyards, the unique growing conditions of the year and the
characteristics of each grape variety. As a result, each wine is truly a
once in a lifetime experience.
Coyote’s Run is new on the landscape and offers up terroir wines with a twist. Within its 58 acres of vineyards are two distinctly different soil types and the winery staff can show you how the earth is expressed in varietals made from grapes grown in each area. You can sample a variety of small-batch VQA wines matched with artisan cheese and try out the signature Bob Izumi wines (one dollar of each Izumi purchase is donated to the non-profit ‘Fishing Forever Foundation’).
Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery is a state-of-the-art gravity-flow assisted winery and one of the most technologically advanced facilities in the country. That being said, a tour of this airy wood, steel and glass structure is an eye-opening experience. Follow with a structured wine tasting and sample a flight of limited release wines in the Tasting Gallery. If you book in advance, you can snag tickets for a sell-out concert at the outdoor amphitheatre during the summer.
Joseph’s Estate Wines is a family-owned and family-run winery founded by Dr. Joseph Pohorly, one of Niagara’s pioneering winemakers. He’s well respected in these parts having won the Regional Innovation Award for Sustainable Development and the Christopher Newton Award for Extraordinary Vision in Business. His winery offers informative tours of its vineyards and cellars and tastings of a full portfolio of premium VQA varietal wines and unique fruit wines. A recent addition to the boutique is made-on-premises grape-seed oil, considered to be a nutritionally rich anti-oxidant with many health benefits.
Recent renovations to Pillitteri Estates Winery have resulted in a beautiful new production facility and underground barrel cellar, both of which are open for tours. The cellar has some conversation-piece features including stainless–steel chairs suspended on the walls that enclose what is arguably the largest concrete table in existence. The family-run winery opened its doors in 1993 and has established itself as Canada’s largest estate producer of Icewine.
Respect the classic character of each grape variety. That’s the philosophy behind winemaking at Hillebrand Winery. The winery has recently completed a $3-million renovation project and visitors are welcome to tour the state-of-the-art facility, walk amongst the vines and sample premium wines. If you’ve ever wanted an insider’s look into the art of winemaking, try out the behind-the-scenes wine blending experience and bottle a masterpiece to take home. Serious wine aficionados can retire to the Collector’s Boutique Tasting Room and sample older vintage library wines that are only available at the winery. Hillebrand’s Winery Restaurant is something you will not want to miss – the renowned Four Diamond restaurant, led by Chef Frank Dodd, is open daily for lunch and dinner.
John Marynissen realized the importance of growing vinifera grapes in the early 70s and today the vineyards of Marynissen Estates have some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Ontario. The winery was founded in 1990 but the reputation for fine wines had already been well established. This is a small winery with big wines. Tours are available and tastings take place in the intimate and friendly wine boutique. Wines are only available on-site.
