Our Story

The origin for Strewn’s name is an Old English adjective meaning “spread” or “scattered.” Chosen for its strong phonetics and lack of connotation, it seemed appropriate for a new World winery, on that would need its own exclusive autonomy.

Strewn’s 10-acre property was formerly a sprawling cannery used to process local peaches, cherries, plums, apricots, and tomatoes for market. As an induction into a second life, the building underwent and extensive renovation and rebuild. Reflecting an agricultural-industrial exterior, the winery is an engaging attraction that offers on of Niagara’s most in-depth visitor experiences, including a retail boutique, tasting room, recreational cooking school, and restaurant.

From its infancy, Strewn has produced well-crafted wines that showcase the region’s superb terroir and simultaneously enrich the local food and wine scene. Grapes from the winery’s lakeshore and inland vineyards, along with those purchased from a handful of other growers, are crafted in structured, age-worthy, Bordeaux-style reds and refreshing whites. More than 30 VQA-certified wines are available for tasting in the winery boutique, including trophy-winning icewines and red blends like Strewn Three, a classic mix of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc.

Wine Tasting

Visitors to the winery’s Tasting Room can sample from a selection of good value “approachable” every day wines.  The Terroir Bar offers ‘tasting flights’, limited edition and pre-release wines.  Periodic seminars take place through the year along with hands-on vineyard experiences.

Hands on Cooking

The Wine Country Cooking School runs hands-on Saturday classes for recreational cooks from mid-January until late November.  All classes include instruction on techniques and cooking a seasonal three-course meal that is matched with Strewn wine.  For those seeking a longer experience, there is a Monday to Friday, five-day Culinary Vacation once a month in July and August.

Dining

OLiV Tapas Bar & Restaurant. The kitchen, under the direction of Chef Robert Webster, turns out beautifully flavoured tapas (small plates), shared plates for two (or more) and full entrees.  There is a suggested wine match from Strewn’s sommelier for every dish on the menu.  OLiV Tapas Bar & Restaurant is open from lunch through dinner seven days a week.
