Lawn games, gourmet dog treats and the best pizza
FULL DAY | SPRING-FALL | EASY PACE
Is someone in the car four-legged or under ten years-old?
Lots of space to run around and beautiful surroundings. No one’s going to complain about a little bit of noise!
MORNING KICKOFF
Marynissen Estates Winery
Vibe: A flight for you and your dog.
Staff Pick: Wait, What? White Cabernet Franc
Off the main road, quiet and homey with a dog-friendly patio. Home to the oldest commercial Cabernet Sauvignon planting in Canada which is pretty cool.
Queenston Mile Vineyard
Vibe: Patio-side pizza and lawn games
Staff Pick: Chardonnay
Lots of competition for great pizza in NOTL but this is a top contender according to the staff at neighbouring wineries. Try offers like Oyster Tuesdays and other weekly events.
Niagara Hidden Gems & Things to Do in Niagara
Patina Pizza at Oast House Brewers
2017 Niagara Stone Rd - Virgil
There’s fierce pizza competition in Niagara and a lot of it is excellent. The Patina Pizza at Oast is one of our favourites. It’s all about quality local ingredients. Oast House is sandwiched between several wineries on Niagara Stone Road, so it’s convenient too.
“This is a theatre powerhouse. If you’re into theatre or you just want to be entertained, check out the Shaw Festival”
Shaw Festival Theatre
10 Queen's Parade — Old Town
Every season, The Shaw offers shows with kids in mind along with an interactive Family Pre-Show Workshop you can add-on to your ticket.
MJ's Own Munchies
406 Lakeshore Rd — Port Weller
All of the greatest food indulgences in one license-plate-filled room. Chickens zip past your ankles as you sit on outdoor picnic tables. Burgers, fries, onion rings — all homemade in the morning. Top it off with deep fried Oreos.
Avondale Dairy Bar
461 Stewart Rd
Serving up home made ice cream since 1955 with a beautiful old-school ice cream counter that looks pretty much unchanged since. Classic banana split or a hot fudge sundae is the move.
HERE’S YOUR AFTERNOON
Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate
Vibe: Acres of outdoor space, a swingset and an amphitheatre.
Staff Pick: White Meritage Blend
Yes, it has a beloved restaurant, but there is plentiful patio space that spills over into picnic tables, swings and cornhole beside the vines. They have the best outdoor concert series at their very own amphitheatre, which is a great way to end the day.
Dandor Estate Winery
Vibe: Small tasting room with orchards for picking
Staff Pick: Estate Cabernet Franc
A brand new winery and the latest addition to Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake. This family has been making wine in Moldova for 24 years. It’s a similar terroir to Maldova and European feel. They offer fruit picking during peak season where the orchards grow among the vines, just like in Maldova.
